Power to the ladies! International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the socioeconomic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women. The day also indicates a call to action for safeguarding equality for women around the world.
The first IWD gathering took place in 1911 with over a million supporters. The movement has grown so much that International Women’s Day belong to groups collectively everywhere, and is thus not specific to any organisation, group or country.
International Women’s Day 2022 falls on Tuesday, 8 March, and this year’s theme is ‘breaking the bias’. It focuses on working towards a world free of stereotypes and judgment. A world that is diverse, fair, and inclusive. It’s a world where diversity is appreciated and admired.
How can you help to #BreaktheBias this year?
- Join a movement and #BreaktheBias in your school, workplace, and community
- Show solidarity by striking the IWD 2022 pose and share your #BreaktheBias footage on social media
- Plan an IWD activity by making use of the IWD resources and guides
- Submit your #BreaktheBias images to IWD
Celebrate our sisters’ achievements on IWD by reflecting on progress made and calling for changes. Stand up for women’s rights and raise awareness against bias.
