Always use quality lubricants with your toys and for easy penetration. This will extend their lifespan, and help you to achieve sexual pleasure. A good lubricant will reduce friction as sex toys can absorb natural body fluids.
Water based lube and silicone based lube are the most common. Water-based lubricants are more absorbent, and may not last as long as the silicone-based lubes. Lubes are also available in flavoured and non-flavoured varieties. We stock only the best quality lubes here.
Personal lubricant osmolality is important
The osmolality of your water-based lubricant is of interest because of where you place it. The outer layer of skin in the vulva, penile urethra, and anus contains cells that let water flow freely in and out of them as needed. The cells maintain equilibrium between themselves and the liquid coming into contact with it. Your cells adjust by either absorbing water or releasing it. If your cells absorb enough water while trying to equalize, they can burst and die. This can happen if your lubricant is hypo-osmotic, which most lubricants on the market are. Dead and damaged cells in these tender body areas are an issue because the function of these cells is to help prevent dirt and bacteria from entering your body. The area can become irritated and more susceptible to infection.
pH Balanced
pH is the measure of a liquid’s basicity or acidity on a scale from 0 to 14, 0 being most acidic and 14 being most basic. A pH of 7 is the reference point in the middle at neutral. Healthy bodies regulate pH naturally with a particular balance of yeasts, fungi, and bacteria combined. Body secretions may become imbalanced when a foreign substance (like lube, douches, or enemas) disrupts the levels of bacteria or fungi. Le Lube’s pH measures between 5 & 7.5, in line with the required reference of 7.
Toxic chemicals found in lubricants
Harsh chemical ingredients found in lubricants can also be toxic to vaginal tissue and its microbiome. The ingredients of some lubricants have the potential to cause longer-term chronic health effects including cancer and reproductive problems from repeated exposure over many years.
Water-based lubricants are popular and widely recommended for several reasons:
Compatibility with Condoms and Toys: Water-based lubes are safe to use with all types of condoms (latex and polyisoprene) and sex toys. Unlike oil-based lubes, they do not degrade latex or cause damage to toys, making them a versatile choice for various activities.
Easy to Clean: They are easy to wash off with water and do not leave stains on fabrics, which makes cleanup after use straightforward and hassle-free.
Non-irritating: Water-based lubricants are generally gentle on the skin and less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions, making them suitable for people with sensitive skin.
Natural Feel: Many people find that water-based lubes have a natural feel and closely mimic the body’s own lubrication, enhancing comfort and pleasure during sexual activity.
Safe for Vaginal Use: They are pH-balanced for vaginal use, which helps to maintain the natural balance of the vagina and prevent issues like yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis.
Available in Many Varieties: Water-based lubes come in various formulations, including those with added flavors, warming sensations, or cooling effects, providing options for different preferences and experiences.
Non-greasy: Unlike silicone or oil-based alternatives, water-based lubes are not greasy and provide a smooth texture that many users prefer.
However, water-based lubes can have some drawbacks, such as drying out faster during use, which might require reapplication. Despite this, their benefits and compatibility with condoms and toys make them a favored choice for both solo and partnered sexual activities.
